Birds at the Garden:

Keith Russell, Program Manager for Urban Conservation through Audubon Mid-Atlantic at Philadelphia’s Discovery Center, offered some thoughts about the life of birds at the garden, particularly as the diversity of plant habitat grows each year. Audubon Mid-Atlantic also offers a wealth of info about the birding community and habitat conservation in the region, including the incredible work underway in Phila to save birds from collisions through the BirdSafePhilly project. IN SUMMER….

”Some or all of the following species are among the most likely to be observed at the garden during the summer….

• Northern Cardinal • Northern Mockingbird
• American Crow • Gray Catbird
• American Robin • Common Grackle

• European Starling • House Sparrow • Mourning Dove • Hummingbird
• Song Sparrow

DURING MIGRATION…..

During migration however a huge number of additional species pass through the city and any of these species that use forests or meadow habitat could potentially pop up at the garden. It’s during migration that the garden may host the largest diversity of birds including..


• Warblers • Sparrows
• Vireos • Thrushes
• Wrens • Orioles
• Kinglets • Flycatchers
